The direct aim of psychotherapy is to explore the root cause of psychological issues which lies deep in one’s past experiences, emotions, harmful patterns of thinking, behaving and give solutions to lead a life more aligned with peace, satisfaction, happiness and resilience.

The process involves establishing a professional relationship with the therapist and cultivating an environment of mutual trust, respect and understanding.

The treatment has various types led by different perspectives of psychology and are used in accordance with the patient’s problems and diagnoses.

The science of psychotherapy holds within itself immense power to cure, manage and prevent relapse in various mental illnesses. Moreover, it can be delivered individually, in a group setting or a family setting.

Supportive Psychotherapy

As the name suggests, supportive psychotherapy, this type of therapy works to support, maintain and restore an individual’s self-esteem and adaptive functioning which tend to get disturbed by the day-to-day complexities of life. The therapeutic relationship formed works on a model of comfort, encouragement and confronting unhelpful behaviors in a healthy way. The key element of supportive psychotherapy is that is designed solely to meet the needs and requirements of the patients.

Behavior Therapy

One of the most researched, well-developed and effective treatments in mental health are based on behavior therapy. Disorders like autism, intellectual disability, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety disorder include certain behaviors that are maladaptive in nature and affect one’s daily functioning. Behavior therapy aims to shift these behaviors to a healthier side and also aid skill acquisitions. Some techniques are- systematic desensitisation (for phobias, panic disorders), shaping/modeling/chaining (for ADHD, Autism, intellectual disability), Exposure response prevention (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and many more.

Marital Therapy

In this journey, it is natural that problems of communication, satisfaction and struggles with their role in the relationship may come up. Marital therapy is an effective treatment in resolving these areas of conflict, helping partners learn better ways of communicating and accepting each other’s shortcomings to improve their relationship and responsibilities towards each other.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Currently the most popular, widely used therapy for a wide range of disorders like depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, pain disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder to name a few. It works on the model that our style of thinking, perceiving and judging the world around us dictates our behavior and emotions. Therefore, it aims to fix the dysfunctional patterns of thought in hopes that it will cause a change in unhealthy patterns of a behavior and uplift our day-to-day functioning and moods. It follows a strict regime of homework, activities and journaling from the patient’s side.

Family Therapy

Our families hold immense power, influence and emotional connections with us. It is our first and foremost unit of social development. Style of parenting and family dynamics have a wildly significant role to play in causing and maintaining certain aspects of psychological disorders. Improper communication patterns, lack of emotional understanding among each other can cause rifts and disturb the entire family system. Therefore, family therapy is an important form of psychotherapy that aims to establish deep emotional bonds within family, solve problems related to communication and creates an environment of trust and comfort within therapy sessions.

Psychometry/ Psychological Assessment

Psychometry is truly like the ‘third eye’ of mental health with psychotherapy and psychopathology on its either sides. With the help of various psychometric measures, we perform a detailed assessment of an individual’s conscious and unconscious processes, behavior, conflict areas, family dynamics to formulate a diagnosis and a specialised treatment plan for our patients. The Mind Cushion offers standardised assessment for intellectual quotient (IQ), personality pathology, neuropsychological functions of the brain, childhood disorders like Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, aptitude and various rating scales for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Mood disorders, Anxiety and Schizophrenia related disorders.
Moreover, our team is well-trained in Rorschach Diagnostics, Thematic Apperception Test, Wisconsin Card Sorting test and Wechsler intelligence scales.

Training/ Observership

The Mind Cushion offers training programmes along with Observership for Bachelors and Masters students of Psychology. The programme includes a basic orientation of all facets of clinical psychology including- History taking, Psychometry, Psychological disorders and Psychotherapy. Before the start of the programme, a pre-test is conducted to establish a baseline for trainees. Subsequently, after the programme, a post-test is performed to track the progress achieved by the trainees during their time with us. Weekly activities are planned along with doubt-clearing sessions and a special lecture on “Scope of Psychology” for students.
The Mind Cushion firmly believes in the responsibility that comes with teaching and motivating students in the field to become trusted-professionals in the future. The training programme is usually for a month.
